Please come witness the second Geografía Latinx Contemporary Dance Festival, this time taking place in beautiful San Antonio, Texas on Friday and Saturday, February 7-8, 2020 at 8:00 PM at Jump-Start Performance Company Theater. This intimate performance setting aims to celebrate the diverse perspectives and lenses that Latinx dance makers in Texas, and beyond, bring to the shifting dance landscape. Curated by Amber Ortega, Sarah Sanchez, Bonnie Cox, and Erica Saucedo, this show will feature works by dance makers from San Antonio, Dallas/Fortworth, and Mexico. Each night will feature a different group of artists.

The performance will be followed by a post-show discussion centered around where dance and LatinX identity intersect, as self-determined by each artist.

Jump-Start Performance Company Theater is located at 710 Fredericksburg Rd, 209 Pedernales Street, Austin, Texas 78702.

Tickets are sliding scale: $10-$25. Seating is limited. After artists are paid, proceeds will go toward supporting future Geografías.

To support amplifying Latinx voices, Bonnie Cox and Erica Saucedo founded Geografía: a Latinx contemporary dance festival. Through this artist-driven initiative, dancers determine their representation and disrupt Latinx stereotypes by sharing their unique perspectives and stories. Geografía unites Latinx choreographers and engages the public in critical discussions about culture, race, gender, and politics through the power of performance.

Directed by Bonnie Cox and Erica Saucedo, but inspired by a wealth of amazing artists and thinkers, Geografía creates a platform for LatinX artists to share their unique narratives that tend to be overlooked by dominant culture, and bypassed in the field of contemporary dance. The title is a nod to the complicated history of the term Latino/@/X and how we use the identifier today.
